"The Power of Positive Thinking"

What do you think about 'positive thinking'? As someone who is challenged by depression maybe your reaction is 'ya right, if I could I would but I can't'.

Let's review our goals here on 'Depression Getaway'. Our goal is to share ways to minimize depression, and in some cases erase it altogether. But for many of us this illness will never be totally eradicated. Kind of like diabetes, some forms of depression, bipolar for instance, have a genetic factor and there is no cure, yet.

But what if you could do things to lessen the suffering you now experience? Would the effort be worth it?

Now I know it is difficult to make a concerted effort to do some of the strategies I recommend when you are in a deep depression.

But I suggest that if we could compare these self-help strategies to say personal hygiene, good  manners, things that most of us can pull off without even thinking then maybe we could add some new strategies or habits that with practice we could pull off without even thinking?

How about POSITIVE THINKING? Do you think that it might be possible that if we practise enough then eventually we could pull it off without even thinking?

Do you think it is POSSIBLE that POSITIVE THINKING could become automatic and we could access them even when we are totally depressed?

Is it worth a try? Are you willing to think about it?

The book I have shown here is by Norman Vincent Peale. He was the first to coin the phrase 'positive thinking' but he was not the first to suggest that we can and should make ourselves think differently for our own good.

If you read the last post I said that we were going to review some depression strategies, bring you up-to-date, and we are. But first we need to get our attitudes in gear.

Next time I am going to tell the secret to positive thinking.

Here is a little laughter therapy: Height of Optimism... Soldier: "Sir, we are surrounded by the enemies", SARDAR Major: "Excellent ! We can now attack in any direction."

Now this positive thinking stuff is just to share, it is not a 'you should just think more positively' guilt trip. Don't zone me out yet....

WHAT ABOUT YOU? How are you feeling today? Are you willing to try some positive thinking? What have you got to lose?

Don't give up! There is hope for depression.
