SOS - Christmas! - SOS

Wait, 'SOS' for Christmas? Why would I say such a thing? Because Christmas can be really tough for lots of people especially for those of us with depression, that's why.

"Christmas" - what comes to mind when you hear that?

Children, presents, tree, lights, food, shopping.....those might be some things that came to your mind.

Or maybe you recall smiles, hugs and good times?

Or maybe expectations and guilt and dread come to your mind? If so you're not alone.

Christmas in our North American culture is mixed bag for many people and an emotional pitfall for the majority of people.

Whether you are depressed or not, 'Christmas' as it is in our society today has become a dreaded holiday for many.

So don't feel guilty if you find it stressful too.

But I am not going to go into the details of 'how Christmas is stressful', you can google that if you want.

Nor am I going to review 'ways to get through Christmas', you can google that too.

Instead I am going to do a happy series on The Twelve Days of Christmas. In it I am going to share some personal stories, good stories, nice memories of my own Christmases over the years. There have been some good ones.

Depression can put a dark shadow over even the good parts of Christmas to the point that you can't even remember enjoying Christmas ever.

I have decided to cast a rainbow over Christmas instead.

So come along and let's celebrate 12 Days of Christmas together.

WHAT ABOUT YOU? How are you feeling today? What is your gut reaction when you hear the word 'Christmas'. Does it conjure up good images or bad? Are you looking forward to it or dreading it? Do you have some good Christmas memories you would like to daydream about for a nice depression getaway?

Don't give up! There is hope for depression.
