'These Boots Were Made for Walkin': Part Two (Excercise is better than Medication)

Do you remember this song?

"These boots were made for walkin
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots
Are gonna walk all over you!"

It was a popular song in my day. There wasn't a girl around who wouldn't love singing that song if she had been mistreated or dumped by her boyfriend. There is something powerful about the image of walking all over someone who you feel has walked all over you.
Now this innocent little boy is thinking no such thing about his boots. He is just out for a lovely walk in the puddles. He is learning how much enjoyment he can get from just walking.

But I am just using this image to make my point this week.

EXERCISE HELPS DEPRESSION.

EXERCISE HELPS DEPRESSION.

EXERCISE HELPS DEPRESSION....

I can't say it enough.

I referred to just one article last time about this topic. Here's some more if you need more proof!

Would you believe that "exercise primes the brain to show less stress in response to new stimuli"? Read the article for yourself. Molecular biologists and neurologists have begun to show that exercise may alter brain chemistry in much the same way that antidepressant drugs do.

If you would like to know more about how exercise helps depression and what kinds of exercise might be helpful, read this article from the Mayo Clinic about how exercise eases anxiety.

The Mayo Clinic is a reliable health website. You may wish to read more about the benefits of exercise but I will save you the time.

Here are seven benefits of regular exercise which I will list here for you in point form:

1. Exercise controls weight.
2. Exercise combats health conditions and diseases.
3. Exercise improves mood.
4. Exercise boosts energy.
5. Exercise promotes better sleep.
6. Exercise puts the spark back into your sex life.
7. Exercise can be fun.

Next time I will tell you what my personal choice of exercise is, and also tell you about a fellow blogger who takes this exercise business literally!

WHAT ABOUT YOU? How are you feeling today? Do you exercise? Would you like to? Are you convinced yet that it may help with depression?

Don't give up! There is hope for depression.
