Where Can You Find a 'Re-Store' for Depression? Part One

Do you have a 'Habitat for Humanity Re-Store' in your community? They are great things, kind of like thrift shops for renovators.

We are  big on 'RE' words in this culture. "Recycle, re-use, re-purpose, restore, reboot" are all words used more now than ever before. Good words! To take a situation or an object, and use it again in a new and different way is a great idea.

To take a situation, or an object, or a person, and see that it has still got some value is a noble exercise.

How about you? Do you feel you still have value, purpose, usefulness, potential?

Or do you need restoring, rebooting, recycling?

Last time we talked about gaining new perspective. Getting a new slant on an old problem can be invigorating and energizing and well, wonderful!

Being 'restored' is a positive experience for anyone, not just one struggling with depression. But to get 'restored' or feel 'restored' when you have depression, well, that would be absolutely wonderful!

How we need it - restoration! How exhausting depression can be. Thinking all the time about negative stuff, well, I am tired just thinking about that!

Easy to say you need 'restoring' but how do you achieve that? To start with I want YOU to think of things that you find restorative.

For me that might mean a hot bath, a swim, a brisk walk, or a hot cup of tea in a quiet spot. Those are just a few things that I find restorative. Oh, not permanently or totally restorative, but momentarily restorative. Do you understand the difference?

But even if we can experience restoration for a moment or an hour or a day, just getting that break from depression can send that old brain a different message. Imagine experiencing lots of restorative things, continuously being restored, well, wouldn't the accumulative effect of that have some influence?

If you'd like to take part in this 'restorative' exercise then do these two things:

1. Write down things, experiences, that you find personally 'restoring'.

2. Do one of the restoring things off of your list.

You are now on your way to creating your own custom 'Re-Store for Depression'.

WHAT ABOUT YOU? How are you feeling today? Do you need to be 'restored'? Would you like to be 'restored'? Are you willing to do your part and figure out some things that would work personally for you?

Don't give up! There is hope for depression.
