Depression's Secret Weapon: Part Four

Oh this is such fun. Just talking about laughter makes me feel better, at least while I am doing it.

If you haven't laughed yet today, you better go here first to the American's Funniest Home Videos site and watch for awhile.

Now for a little scientific talk on why laughing is so medicinal. Here are a few pieces of information which I gleaned from an article on Naturalnews. The article is based on a book 'The Five Habits of Health Transformation' by Mike Adams.

1. Laughter is biophysical; it moves lymph fluid around your body simply by the natural laughing convulsions.

2. Laughter increases oxygenation which is essential to life. Like exercise, laughter increases the amount of oxygen that gets into our system. Oxygen is good for you and so more of it is great for you!

3. When you laugh you also generate a wealth of healing biochemicals. "Some of these are brain-altering chemicals such as serotonin; others are immune-boosting chemicals such as interleukins. If you were to make a long list of all the chemicals created by engaging in healthy laughter, you would have quite a list of healthy body chemicals that would carry a hefty price tag if you purchased them retail. And yet...you can create these chemicals for yourself at no cost by simply engaging in laughter."

In conclusion, laughter is good for everyone. It's free. It's fast.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?  How are you doing today? Do you laugh enough? Have you ever thought of laughter as a therapy for depression? Are you willing to give it a try?

Next time I will talk about just how we can plug laughter into our depression getaway strategy plan.

Don't give up! There is hope for depression.
